The Poet’s Disease

In a jungle far from me
simian hosts carried
a strain about to mutate
thus ruining
some poor bard’s excursion
not to mention my life!

Iambic Pentameter
they call it now..
after who or what
I have not the slightest….
a thread virus under the ‘scope
five iambic feet long
causing sweats and an aching back
with excruciating headaches
from compulsive syllable counting
in a feverish state of mind
while riding
the last quatrain in a theme
that leads to nowhere.

I have this disease presently it seems
seeing life in metered segments …
where all used to be unimpeded
existence is now
a-b-a-b/c-d-c-d/e-f-e-f/g-g.

The end is close.
Nurse Nan….please
Morphine more morphine

Gasp….sputter….gag

This was so great Robert--signed up for the class myself but was sick before I even started. Give me the freedom of verse--no curse, to tell the thoughtful ramblings of this so-called poet. Sorry Nan.
