'Tis the evening of Christmas And all through the town Toy inventories In stores are way down. Parents who yesterday Bubbled with cheer Are grateful that Christmas Comes only once every year. Into their snug, warm beds Little girls and boys fall, Most of them thoroughly Confused by it all. Safely back at the North Pole Santa says, "I swear, that's it. Let some other fool do it. I've had it. I quit." His wife tucks him in bed And strokes his hot brow. She coos into his ear, "Dear Santa, now, now What is Christmas without you?" "Yes, yes," he agrees. That's true. And I know you love Christmas. All right. I'll do it for you." So rest easy young children, Santa will come back because Mrs. Claus loves Christmas, And Santa loves Mrs.Claus. |

Cute! Nail to the mast her holy flag, Set every threadbare sail- And give her to the god of storms, The lightning and the gale! -Oliver Wendell Holmes |
