Sy and Me

A very dear friend has asked me
Of my relationship with Sy
It's rather hard to describe it all
And I cannot explain the why

To tell the truth, I'm completely taken
By the poet's magic pen
And skip a couple vital heartbeats
At every single phrase he wends

I have been a lover of poetry
From very early childhood days
And there are just a few poets
Who move my heart in special ways

One of them is Paul Verlaine
A Frenchman of musical rhyme
Another, Venicius de Moraes
Brazilian poet of our time

And Sy has these same qualities
Of wisdom and music, polish and style
With willowy phrase that grace each poem
And words that make my spirit smile

But I also notice here in Passions
Reactions to Sy's poetry
That half the women poets are in
A state of fainting ecstacy

And I,too, am quite in love
With the wondrous phrases that he writes
And my passions come a'pouring
At the slightest little sight

I will admit I get carried away
By the exuberance I truly feel
But that is who I really am
And what I write is really real

Who wouldn't want to be the one
That he was heading home to meet
In the midst of cherry blossom time
In the dead of springtime's distant heat

But I know that there were several others
Swooning at his tender words
Waiting for that solid kiss
In songs that they had never heard

So why is it Sy's poetry
Makes us faint? I'll tell you why
He knows just how to touch a woman
A man so rare is hard to find

And I truly feel that poetry
Reflects the person that you are
And so it is the man that takes me
To another distant star

I am in love with his spirit
His mind to me is welcomed bliss
And I am very fond, indeed
Of the person that he truly is

But Sy and I are like two vessels
Passing in the open sea
With different courses we have charted
I wave as he waves back to me

Two people who have never met
But close friends from the very start
And he will ever be a friend
Deep within my tender heart

He is a jewel among the thousands
To me he is a treasured gift
He wields my spirit as his pen
And makes my very soul uplift

I never even met the man
A gentleman, that's plain to see
And never will we ever meet
But friends on Passions we'll always be

This is a wonderful tribute to a true poetic gentelman! Friendship is one of the 'perks' of being here at Passions! I treasure the friends I've made...and your tribute well describes the friendship you have with Sy.. but never say you won't meet...you never know! (And I agree with all you've said!)

Elizabeth, my friend -
Beautiful salute to a poet that inspires many of us.  The nicest thing is that between you and Sy there is a respect and admiration that goes far beyond the words that show up on the screen.  The very idea that one writes so lovely and then illicits a beautiful response is rapture ...

Without a doubt
I do agree ...
of your description
of Sy's poetry.

The man can woo
with words so sweet.
Why, if he wasn't already taken
he'd sweep me off my feet.

What I see when
I read the man,
is poetry flowing
from the watering can.

He tenderly nourishes
this rose to bloom,
with just a phrase
I easily swoon.

The words he pens
fill me with the desire
to pen my own thoughts.
Why, he lights my fire !

The inspiration
from his poetic pen
is magic to this soul,
as is the man.

No, we two have not met ...
but if we ever should
I'd have to simply shake his hand
and say .... man, you are good !

I see the magic
between you two
inspiring, desiring
and that's okay too.

Ships in the night ?
I'd have to agree,
Hello, Sy ...
it's Liz and me !

Elizabeth,
Once again you have kicked sand in my eyes
And when I can see again you will get some replies. *L* Sy

Marge
You poem affected me as much as lizzy's
In fact it made me a little bit dizzy.
It's a big ocean and our ships are small
But one never knows how the future will fall?
Love Ya Sy

Ruth,
I must say that Sy isn't the only one who has inspired me to write. I look at your poetry and see a compassion and love of fellow man greater than I've seen anywhere, and that in itself is an incentive to write. And you've shared many thoughts with us of love and of sorrow and your words pour so beautifully from your heart. Thank you for all of that.
Love ya, Liz

Sy,
No need to answer this poem
As long as you liked it, that's all I need to know
Love ya,
Liz

Beautiful, Elizabeth!

As soul to soul and heart to heart
such lovely words you do impart
The poet's words do touch us all
Bouquets of love the heart's enthrall!

Lovely, lovely!

Nice to see this--the epitome of interaction!

Nail to the mast her holy flag,
Set every threadbare sail-
And give her to the god of storms,
The lightning and the gale!

I've read this several times before Liz..but I didn't know how to express my thoughts on this poem and as I'm writing this I still am not sure how.
But I want to say something....I loved this piece! Sy is such a poet extraordinare and this is a most touching tribute. The poems that you write back and forth are simply grand and your friendship is beautiful for all to see.....
Sorry, got a little sappy there   must be the Holidays getting to me  ...but my words are sincere...

'Not good poetry....'?
What?
The best IS from the heart, my friend.
'The midst of cherry blossom time...' lovely - and that says it all to me.
You two have a friendship that is bound in
the eternal spring of poetry - and I think what you have is truly precious, and I'm glad for you and Sy.

You brave woman - you do have a tender heart indeed.

Hugs,
Kamla.
