This is one of the very first poems I wrote, a poem for my sister, Margaret, and now I post it in dedication to Marge and Shari SISTERS They say two sisters are a breed Apart from any kin No one can separate them Or destroy their love within My sister's always been a friend A soulmate from the start She has a special way of Reaching in to touch my heart She's there to help console me In times of pain and strife And to join with me and celebrate The good things in my life We're both aware instinctively As long as we're on earth Of the common thread that binds us Still unbroken since our birth Sometimes I like to just recall Our youthful days of fun My mind is filled with happy thoughts Of all we've shared and done The "bully pond", the walks to school The Pettigrew parade The sandbox bees, the comic books And summer lemonade All these things that we recall Were never left behind They'll remain with us forever Well imbedded in our minds For woven in and out Among the simplest forms of play Was a bond between two sisters Growing stronger every day We parted ways, I went afar And on my darkest day I somehow felt my sister's love A million miles away Through the years we lived apart Our families always came first But the bond between us never broke And love was never lost Now that we have time to share Some moments once again I find our friendship still the same As it had always been She still makes every day seem fun And every moment worth An unimagined treasure And all the gold on earth We took a trip and wondered through A garden rich and rare And engraved into my heart Are conversations that we shared I was confused and troubled By stark memories from my youth She opened up my very soul And then exposed the truth She somehow managed to unmask The source of all my pain And altered my entire life In ways I can't explain There's no one else I've ever known To whom I could confess The deepest secrets of my life And feelings I possess I'm thankful for the little girl Many years ago Who slept beside me in my bed And taught me all I know My words seem so inadequate To tell her how I feel To express to her the love And deep affection I reveal Suffice to say that we both share A gift of priceless worth For the love between two sisters Is the greatest gift on earth Love, Elizabeth |

Elizabeth, Words run off your finger tips, Like sounds come off my lips. And I cannot state your loving tones. Without a chill down in my bones. You are a wonder I do declare, And a poet beyond compare. *L* SY |

Kamla, I don't know if you have a sister, but any girl who does will understand the last verse of this poem. Thanks, Liz Sy, Words do not come easily Except in lines of poetry And don't flow from my fingertips Nor do they emanate from my lips But from my heart they swiftly fly I do not know the reason why I wish I had an intellect To write just what my thoughts reflect But in one respect I rise above- A great capacity to love Thank you very much You're sweet Liz |

Lizzy, I don't - but my heart sister, Adrienne, is the sister I never had. And the last verse sure applies to her. ![]() |

Denise, Now I know why you don't like to drive the Schuylkill Expressway. Where did they get that name from, anyway, It's never been a fast trip for me, but today was the worst. Two hours to get home! I'm glad you liked this poem. My sister did too Liz |

As a mere man, I find it difficult, sometimes to understand 'das ewig Weibliche', eternal womanhood, things that go on in a woman's heart and mind. Your poem, Liz, helped me a lot. It's also nearly perfect in form, and sound, except for one typo and one or two lines where the meter could be improved a bit. Overall, a very beautiful piece of art, though. Thank you, Liz! Elizabeth, I believe it is an Indian name, I don't know what it means but the nickname for it around here is the 'Sure-Kill' and it is usually a mess anytime of day, rain or shine, dry or wet and is increasingly becoming more dangerous as drivers become more careless and as they take more risks (seems to me to be on the rise here, I don't know about the rest of the country) People literally are getting so much worse when driving. I will go ten miles out of my way to take the turnpike just to avoid the expressway. And I-95 is not much better. I only drive that on Sunday mornings when the rest of the world is asleep! Sorry it took you so long to get home. Must have been annoying. Denise |

I don't have a blood sister but I am blessed with two heart sisters. I didn't grow up with them but I sure have grown through them. One of them is my sister-in-love (not law). This stanza moved me to tears for a reason I can't define "I'm thankful for the little girl Many years ago Who slept beside me in my bed And taught me all I know" Thanks for touching my heart In the dew of little things, the heart finds its morning and is refreshed. Willem, I truly appreciated all of your remarks, for I get the impression that you are somewhat of a perfectionist (that phrase didn't make sense). Anyway, thank you for your remarks. Liz Denise, Everytime I go out of state and come back in, I realize how archaic our road system is. In fact our major highways still follow the exact curvature of the original Indian trails upon which they were built! By the time our state government approves a new highway plan, it's already obsolete. And that's what happened to the "Sure Kill" Expressway. Better use the Turnpike. Liz |

Martie, I think Willem hit upon a point and that is that women have much more open relationships between themselves than men do, and between sisters it can be as close sometimes as between twins. It is truly a gift. Balladeer.I'm glad you liked the poem. Means much to me Liz |
