Worn out mattress as a bed, In a corner on the floor, Barbie doll without a head, Hush my baby, cry no more. Daddy's gone and won't be back, Went to find some weed to score, Ford's out back up on a jack, Hush my baby, cry no more. Telephone has not been paid, No money for the grocery store, Of what's to come, I am afraid, Hush my baby, cry no more. It's birthday night, and times are lean, Two children weep behind flat's door, Baby and her mom's sixteen, Hush my babies, cry no more. |

But what would silence their cries I wonder? Poignant writing, Mike. |

The circle of poverty is so hard to get out of. A sad and well written poem Mike. In the dew of little things, the heart finds its morning and is refreshed. (ee cummings) |

Mike: you expressed this well...I remember only too well choosing between bad and evil to feed my daughter and whichever paid the most - won! HUGS Yesterday is but today's memory and tomorrow is today's dream... |

You can put so much feeling into just a few words, Mike, that I admire so much. This poem drains me emotionally! I know you speak the truth which makes the poem even sadder. But oh so good! Thank you. |

Thank you all for your comments. It is indeed frightening the number of young mothers... as young as 12, 13... to see a young mother in court and having two or three children by the time she reaches 20... and yes.. it is indeed a cycle... I am now dealing with the children of the people I saw in court 20 years ago... |

Mike - You're awesome... Having directed the foster care programs where these "children" and the "children of these children" find themselves, I comprehend these words all too well....... |

Powerful Mike. Very well written. I see these young mothers and I wonder why? I have never dealt directly with teen mothers and thier situation. What can we do to change things? |

Powerful and heartbreaking....!!!! Touched me deep within.... A soul that writes from the heart and shares it, truly gives a gift extraordinaire! |
