I'm not sure what I am doing here actually.  I am not a poet.  But in this the year of the great dating service disaster, or as I more commonly refer to it "the year of the black hole of utter despair", I will always remember that simple query.

If the leaves of New England changed color, would you care enough to send me a box full.

I sent a poem instead.
She sent it back.

I'm not a poet.  I just wanted a date.

THE LEAVES OF NEW ENGLAND

If the sun should shine only in daytime, and the moon could glow only at night,
I would stay awake twenty-four hours, just to capture their beautiful light.
If the leaves of New England changed color, while the leaves here turned ugly and brown,
I would climb a tall ladder and paint them, just to keep you from wearing a frown.
I would paint some with red and some yellow.  I would color them every hue.
Then I’d gather them up and I’d kiss each one soft and deliver their beauty to you.

Anyone who has ever seen our splendiferous foliage has to have an appreciation for this work.....

Quest -
If this isn't poetry ...
I'm a ugly brown leaf
sitting on the ground in
New England !

By golly, I like it !

I've seen the leaves in all their glory
at the change of the season, and they are a sight to see!

 It matters not how strait the gate;
How charged with punishments the scroll;
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

I have seen entire mountains exploding with Fall colors. Wonderful to be reminded of them it is.

 Now and forever, my heart hears ~one voice~.

Welcome, friend.  I am relatively new here, too, and have found this to be a very supportive and inspirational group.

And to the woman who sent your poem back, screw her and the horse she rode in on!

I live where 100's of 1000's of people from all over the world come to see the leaves each fall and when they're peak, there's no sight quite like it. Liked your poem, Welcome!
Corinne, regarding your friendly advice....Couldn't have said it better myself!!

Welcome to the family! I liked your poem. And as for the lady, forget her! If she can't appreciate something good, she's not the woman for you!

I beg to differ that you are not a poet, this is beautiful. As for her, she doesn't deserve you
