Take out mortgages, beg, borrow, Send your kid away to school, Where he'll become, to your great sorrow, Another educated fool. He won't learn how to calculate. He won't learn how to spell, Or the meaning of "exacerbate" Or the structure of a cell. He'll study cultures multi. So for your money just expect That his learning will be paltry, But he'll be politically correct. |

Well done, Dom Mart!! Some of the wisest people I've even known have very little formal education... but there's a plethora of educated fools! *G* |

Dittos, Dommy Boy. I didn't start to learn until AFTER I "earned" my degree. Still paying for it too, which kinda bites. Jim "If I rest, I rust." -Martin Luther |

I agree, school isn't what it used to be. Great poem! Denise |

Dom Mart - I like the poem. Like the theme. I merely happen to disagree. Children four, I sent to college, aware of the cost of their knowledge. Of all the bucks I ever spent I've never wondered where they went, when greeted daily with accomplishment of the learned kind. Not to belittle the school of hard knocks ... but an education really ROCKS ! *It's not the degree, but how it's applied that makes it all worthwhile. ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

Very true - at my university I meet a lot of people so full of their own learned pomposity that it turns the stomach! LOL - great writing. |
