Suffering in Silence

The old man,
rocking chair bound,
thinks to times
of vigor
and chores to be done
then wonders what day
this really is
and how long
he has been sleeping.
Because today has an obscurity-
some untouchable reality
that cannot cut through
the memories
of the prime of life.
So in this blurring
of the present
there is a silence
that is deafening
and for it
he must suffer.

Robert

Interesting perspective my friend. To look to much at the past is living what is lost. Good work..

How sad!  I really don't believe all of those in late adulthood succumb to this...and thank heavens for that. ~sigh~ There are those who do, sadly enough.  My hope is to look back upon my life with fondess, realize that I lived a full and adventurous one and never lose the ability to fend for myself.  Hmmmmmmm...well, it is my hope.

Depressingly real, Robert.

To the world you might be just one person but to one person you might just be the world.

I know Balladeer.... Thanks to all who voiced their differing perspectives... I just watched my grandparents grow old... they never wanted me to grow up. My growing up sentenced them to old age and they hated it. So they lived in the past. I try not too... it is hard.
