Time is such a simple gift
that we give to one another
maybe in the way we talk
or when a sister hugs a brother

Often it's invisible to anybody else
the way we stop to say hello
listening in detail to all of the reply
watching the smile appear and grow

Noticing when someone is missing
and taking time to ask them why
could it be their child is ill
or that someone may have died

Sharing in the good news of a triumph
halving a problem knowing it's been shared
the knowledge you've brought peace or joy
because *you* took the time to care

It's the little things that count in this world
not the measure of your house or car
or whether you're big, thin, fat or small
but in sharing the gift of who you are

So this Christmas present needs no wrapping
its value isn't limited and will last you all year through
and I'll be tying mine up with just a few treasured words
to show you with a little time that I do indeed care about you...
