Hanging up the telephone, a frown upon my face The time I spend away from home, an absolute disgrace. I fill my tank and check the oil, then hurry up and go- An eighteen hour drive ahead, and one more rodeo. I won last night in Jacksonville, I scored an eighty six If I don’t win in Gallup, I’ll sure be in a fix. Last year’s taxes overdue, a baby on the way- The chances getting slimmer, of me winning big, each day. I feel like I am fifty, I’m sore and strained and bruised- But twenty seven’s mighty old, if a cowboy’s paid his dues. Nine years on the circuit, and still I’m second rate- But I give it every thing I have, each time they swing the gate. My gal has been real patient, supportive of me too- To hear her crying on the phone, near breaks my heart, it’s true I tell her that I love her, too; but now I’ve got to go- To Ft. Worth, Austin, San Antone... and one more rodeo. ------------------ From "The Outlaw Josey Wales": "Dyin' ain't much of a livin' boy". and..."Aclose second is a poor finish, in a fight to the Death". ~GS~ http://www.geocities.com/montcogunslinger/HomePage.html |
