A Cleansing of the Soul and Mind

There's something about a simple verse
That puts all theory in reverse
And blows dimension to the wind
And reasoning to utter sin

It casts a stone in rapid thrust
Awakes the spirit's craving lust
An intruder uninvited in
Then beckoned to remain within

Poetry can touch a tender wound
A place within the spirit's womb
That nothing else can near approach
And nothing else would dare encroach

Then on the wing of butterfly
Words of lyric gently fly
Into this private deep domain
Life's precious well of joy and pain

With words the heart can bear believe
And phrase the soul had not conceived
It surrounds you with its firey thrill
Or a brisk and wintry icy chill

It dives into the deepest pits
And thrashes round in raging fits
Or gives your heart a warm embrace
And soothes the spirit with its grace

It conjures up old memories
It sings of children's fantasies
It tickles you with whims of youth
Or startles you with simple truth

Just an innocent verse of poetry
Can clutch your soul, then set it free
Tears of joy are then revealed
Or tears of sorrow long concealed

Whatever treasures you may find
Poetry cleanses soul and mind

Elizabeth, Elizabeth, Elizabeth -
This is stunning.
So deep and yet ... so easy to traverse.
You've done it again ... intoxicating.

I pay thee homage, milady. a lovely poem, I daresay I should change the title of mine. Yours is so much more fitting.

Gunslinger, You won't believe this but I had just written this poem today, and when I got home I saw your post, so I tried to post this on the challenge , but couldn't find it. I didn't mean to steal your name, I just thought it was an ongoing challenge. Get it?
Please don't change anything!I'm going to change mine. Am enjoying your work, epecially that one about sailing round the horn. I love it!Thanks for the comments

Elizabeth,
My computor was on the fritz
Blew me out of my wits.
This is an elegant poem
I would say an epitome
Exquisitely done. *L*
