"You are such a good-hearted soul you offered to volunteer serving meals at the church soup kitchen in one of the poorer parts of town on Christmas Eve." What Goes Up It really didn't matter much, for truth be told by me, I am alone this Christmas Eve, and hungry as can be. I joined the many others who have lent their pleasant ways To serve and feed and look upon the need of those these days. I saw a neighbor, who used to be a salesman at White's Ford. The government took far too long on bailing out the horde. With family, four, in holiday prime, faced in sheepish looks Passed through the lengthy line of mine, and thanked the many cooks. Over there, I saw her, too, she used to be prom queen. Now wearing second-hand a dress, looking less pristine. Her eyes avoided mine, for once upon a time I tried To join cheerleading, but her vote was mine to be denied. Front and center table I saw MaryBeth Rehmeyer. She used to own that clothing store, the one that caught on fire. They say it was an accident but I think it was her son, Who tired of her working (I had seen him on the run). Left alone too many nights in want and need of love, He ran the streets among the lost, feeling unworthy of. A secret I will hold within, for hurts I know can draw The worst from one when loneliness becomes your major flaw. And there he was back from New York, once handsome, long ago. Robert, so they call Bob now, (a "once upon" my beau). He lifted lips in partial smile though reassured, was not, Wall Street stripped him of his pride and riches he once "got". And so it goes... WAIT! I see Toe, LongJohn and Balladeer Pretending not to see me as the three are coming near. I double scoop and serve them more than others 'cause I know Their needs are greater than the rest, as words, theirs, often show. So "once upons" and those up high no longer feel the rise For what goes up surely must come down...living life's disguise. M "Love is not blind - It sees more and not less, but because it sees more, it is willing to see less." (Will Moss) [This message has been edited by nakdthoughts (12-17-2008 06:03 AM).] |

Nicely done, Maureen! That is really an interesting concept, having the people that you once knew and who played parts in your life fall down the ladder to wind up in soup kitchen for handouts. (on a literary standpoint, since this IS a workshop, "she used to be prom queen" and "used to own a clothing store") Otherwise, you done good....and thanks for the extra spuds |

You did a great job on the assignment. I love to get challenges and see where our minds flow. Well done. Remember me with a smile on your face, or please don't remember me at all. |

Thanks, Sue. Deer, I know it was a strange view on the soup kitchen, guess I am feeling a bit negative lately... and this is what developed. Thanks for the used's Lucie, I agree, I usually am up for a good challenge although my interpretation may be quite different than expected. Thank you Alison, wishing you a Merry Christmas, too. M |
