Drogheda's Tower

Behold sad Drogheda's stone tower,
Lone witness of Eire's dark hour.
When Cromwell laid siege
Lord Death was his liege
And sorrow was Ireland's dower.

***

Priest O'Boyle

O'Boyle was a pious young priest
Whose piety sharply decreased
When he met a fine lass,
Tossed his robes in the grass,
And regretted it not in the least.

***

I know my anapests aren't perfect but, man, this isn't easy. Okay guys, take your shots!

I liked the second one better than the first for two reasons. (1) The first one comes across two serious for limerick, but the second is quite funny. And (2) I don't understand the history behind the first one, but the second one's history is obvious.

Nan:  Takes some of us a little more time to get the hang of it than others, I guess.

I'll try harder on the next one, I promise.

All:

Drogheda is a town in NE Ireland that was besieged by Oliver Cromwell (head of English Parliament) shortly after the Irish (very briefly) regained control of Ulster (now Northern Ireland)in the 1600's (I think).  Cromwell's Ironsides took no prisoners and all of the men, women and children in the city were killed.

O'Boyle is my great-great-grandpop.  Good thing for me he ditched those robes, huh?
