![]() Dear Mr. President – Have a Cookie a week ago a friend did what a friend does – a favor when asked how best I could repay, he said “I like chocolate chip cookies!” I put it on my “to do” list two days ago I picked up ingredients for chocolate chip cookies yesterday, our nation was attacked war is imminent people need blood families need prayers the country needs unity children need reassurance calm needs to permeate and level heads, preside and grief will come, later tears will come, later faith needs to be now courage needs to be now belief needs to reign supreme in our country ourselves our President Dear Mr. President this morning I awoke grateful today I talked with people who hope you do the right thing this afternoon, I kept tabs on you, and yours, awaiting your words tonight I passed soccer fields, parents are with children giving support in a tomorrow to come Dear Mr. President tonight I shall bake cookies for the tomorrows that shall be in this, I have faith in you and yours in our country and it’s desire to remain free in the fact that we can come together as one I believe. Here, Mr. President. Have a cookie. 12 September 2001 |

Given my memory, it's amazing that I remember this poem. Seems my memory of that week and the weekend preceeding it (which I'd spent blissfully camping) are very clear. Glad ya reposted this. It really doesn't seem like a year, then again...seems like a thousand. |

I think our President may just have deserved that cookie. And yes, the tears for some came later, but they still flow freely today. Thanks for posting this. And... tonight I shall bake cookies for the tomorrows that shall be Baking pan in hand.... Tammy |

Ah Karilea, I remember this poem and I remember the days of which you write. We were all struggling with moving forward...you wrote this so well. Shenachie |

I missed this the first time around. Thanks for reposting. We all needed that cookie then and still do today. Besides, chocolate chips are my favorite anyway. Thanks, Pete |

Thanks everyone. It is difficult for me to be hard on a person who was voted [or chadded] into a position and whom, I believe, is doing the best he can, despite everything. I think this poem is as relevant now as it was a year ago...and the President could go by any name...all Presidents [for the most part] need the support of the country... now, as to the poem, what? No one is going to tear it apart and tell me how to improve upon it? [This message has been edited by Sunshine (09-26-2002 05:24 PM).] |
