~*Black Velvet Blossoms*~

Black velvet blossoms
delicate to the touch
The beauty
of the rose
cloaked in mysterious
darkness

What secrets lie beneath
the sable veil?

A fragrance so honest
yet concealed
behind an ebony mask

Why does it hide?
Perhaps in fear
Perhaps
the fear of honesty itself

As you search for an answer
handle with care

For fragile
is the honest fragrance
of the rose

Okay, I REALLY wanted to play in the workshop this month,
but I haven't been able to write free verse in quite
some time now.Actually, I haven't been able to write
ANYTHING in quite some time now.
When I first started writing, free verse was
the only style I wrote in, but my style
has changed quite a bit since then.
Anyway...I hope you'll forgive me for posting an 'oldie'.
I really AM trying my best to revive my muse.
Wish me luck!

you have not truly met the poet.

It's been awhile since I've been able to write as well... but this is a beautiful example of free-verse. I especally like the last line, it's so true! I hope your muse returns soon.

Very nicely done! I have never experienced writing in free verse.  It would be a refreshing change.  Your words flow nicely.

I'm glad that you posted it, Vicky...
To me, its not an oldie because I've never seen it before and I really like it a lot.
The one that I wrote about my mother and posted here is also an oldie... so don't feel bad....
Good luck to your muse...

I enjoyed the beauty and sensitivity of your words.  Good luck with the writer's block.  I am a genius at finding reasons to avoid writing.  Still hope to correct that particular form of self-sabotage.

Vicky, I know what you mean about not being able to write. My attempt this month is an old one too although I have recently revised it some.

BTW, this one was new to me too and I thought it very well done. Thanks for sharing.

I never really thought of the fragrance of a rose as 'honest' before - but you're right... There simply is no substitute for the real thing, is there... This is lovely, my rosey friend...
