This is a repeat of a previous workshop as well - but I guess that if we keep several months between one and the next, we're OK... We'll do some new stuff soon... ![]() Here goes... Let's start first with Anapestic Meter. What's an anapestic, you say? Simple - it's a three-beat foot..... ![]() That one modifies the first foot by eliminating the first syllable, as many works do - How about the classic of all thyme.... not-a-CREA/ture-was-STIR/ring-not-E/ven-a-MOUSE all-the-STOCK/ings-were-HUNG/by-the-CHIM/ney-with-CARE in-the-HOPES/that-st-NICH/o-las-SOON/would-be-THERE...." This one is flawless, folks.... That's all there is to anapestic - It looks easy, huh? Not necessarily so.... Then there are Limericks. As corny as they are, everyone loves them. Five simple lines of light humorous verse make up a limerick. The rhyme scheme is a-a-b-b-a. The stress pattern is clearly anapestic - For example: That's a fact you can nary refute If you see Justin Thyme He'll be penning new rhyme Justin Kace Crachet gives him the boot The anapestic meter, alternates as: trimeter, trimeter, dimeter, dimeter, and back to trimeter - It breaks down as..... that's-a-FACT/you-can-NA/ry-re-FUTE if-you-SEE/just-in-THYME he'll-be-PEN/ning-new-RHYME just-in-KACE/crach-et-GIVES/him-the-BOOT This is a light easy workshop - We'll have some fun with it... Oh - and Doreen - We'll be looking for full poems in limerick format from you.... ![]() I'll add more - I just did the one on oodle's o' noodles... After I get home from my 'real time' classroom..... |
