I lit a candle in the dark
And it's tiny flame showed to me
The place where you had left your mark
Inside where none could see
A place where scars have not healed
Where dreams were lost and torn
And the candle's light revealed
My soulful cry forlorn
Alone in candleglow I thought
And lost myself in time
Of the one thing I truly sought
Could never ever be mine
I stared into an empty space
Devoid of all emotion
As the candlewax defaced
Dismissed my foolish notion
As hours passed I gave no sign
My face as cold and hard as stone
That while I dreamed in candleshine
My thoughts were all of you alone
I closed my eyes so wearily
As the candle breathed it's last
And it told me clearly
It was time to forget the past
So I left my heart behind
Like candlewick burned out and dead
I knew the candle would not mind
That only it knew the tears I shed
I lit a candle in the dark
And midst the thick candlesmoke
I slept till dawn had broke apart
And to a brand new life awoke

i really liked this. it's a place i'm working to get to, that new life without the person i thought i was gonna spend the rest of my life with. well written
