The swings hang loosly, And glisten in the morning sun. Quietly the chains clank, Sending an echo throughout the playground. A sandwhich lays on the bench, Untouched and fresh with dew. The flying fox looks lonesome, As if it is in the middle of time. Papers scatter across the yard, Making an unknown pattern. With the papers goes the wind, Carrying the dreams of the youngens before. The silence whispers the chants, Of the skipping ropes hypnotic tap. One by one each child is brought down, In the haze of mystery and confusion. The smell of tears and fear, Runs rampent through my nose. The taste of lost dreams and hopes, Paint limitless pictures in my head. For alone in the schoolyard, The lives were lived and lost. Childrens hearts which were so strong, Now rest in the schoolyard of dreams. |

I love this. It deals with so many emotions and images... it's just simply great. I'm getting ready to graduate from highschool, and I find myself growing more and more nostalgic as the year closes. This is a wonderful poem that deals with all those feelings. I love it. |
