This is the sound of the beat of a different drum
Can you feel it pulsating in your blood
It's the only thing i hear, day and night
It keeps me moving, the sound, the beat
I've been living like this, breathing like this
Back before i learned it's pulse, can you feel it
Takes me on, alluring and bewitching me
As i go on living, I find myself humming
the tune, humming the music of the drum
Catches on to those few, who have heard it before
Haunting them, following them, can you hear it
These are the few that make the drum beat
They carry it with them, along side of them
And to the ones who don't know, don't understand
This is the sound of the beat of a different drum

it's my mouth that pushes out this breath..."-FTE

One of the pleasures I derive from reading poetry is the periodic unique poem that stands apart from most themes.  Yours was one of the unique ones, and you did a very good job communicating your feelings.
Never stop listening to that beat of the "different drum".  It will define the special person that you are.
Nice work!

nights: i like the symmetry between the off-rhythm beat of the poem and the idea of "the beat of a different drum"... pretty clever there... keep up the good work

sincerely,

 Disarm you with a smile
And leave you like they left me here
To wither in denial
The bitterness of one who's left alone
