I used to know someone,
And call her my friend.
I thought that she would stick by me,
Right to the very end.

Sure we had our fights,
Our good times and bad.
But to see what she is now,
Makes me feel so mad.

What exactly am I to her?
Just someone who's there?
How can you throw away 8 years,
And not even care?

I used to call her a friend,
But I think that is wrong.
I think being without her,
Is actually making me strong.

She was such a great person,
Who would always listen.
But I think that all this is,
Is just a transition.

I will never forget,
How she used to be.
And I will never forget,
What a friend she was to me.

anonymous: okay, so it's 3:00 am and i'm responding to poetry, so sue me *heh*... i like this poem quite a bit actually... reminds me all too well of one of my closest and dearest friends whom i parted ways with no more than 2 years ago...

sincerely,
jerome the mysterious priest *yawn*

A savage place! as holy and enchanted
As e'er beneath a waning moon was haunted
By woman wailing for her demon-lover!

I know this situation all to well.  but, i learned to move on and keep living as i did with them.  i figure that if they are really arent my friends, then my life wont be affected greatly by them.  keep up the great work.

Anonymous...wow..this was really good.  And unfortunately, I went through the exact same thing.  In 8th grade, the girl I'd been "best friends" with since kindergarten, dropped me like a bad habit.  It sucks...but I guess everything happens for a reason.  Not having to deal with her opened me up to a whole new group of friends.  Hope everything turns out just as well for you!!

Wow....this such a good poem and reminds me so much of a friend I once had. It's sad really. How they all come and go. But you know you're right....you do finally realize that you're a much stronger person w/o that friend. I certainly have. Well good luck and keep smiling
