If I were a poet,
Would I speak in rhyme
Would my friends tell me
To shut up all the time?

If I were a poet
Could I find my muse
Would it be just mine
The only one I use

If I were a poet
Would it fulfill my wishes
Would I have to do laundry
And wash the dishes

Ok…listen up! I’ve got TWO challenges for you!

ONE: Everyone write a verse or two to follow this poem..it must begin with the same line I’ve used – If I were a poet –

The second challenge is to go to the Announcement Forum for a very important notice about a new feature we are testing at Passions!  The first 5 teens who sign up for the program will be the testers!!! So….on your mark…get set..wait! don’t forget to come back and write a verse!…….GO!

If I were a poet
Would I be in a book
To live forever on a page
For all to take a look

If I were a poet
Would life fall into place
Would it be perfect?
Would I be a famous face

If I were a poet
Would I get my bug
My beautiful dream car
A car I would hug

Or, if I were a poet
Would I get something more
Something money can't buy
Something I would die for

If being a poet
Got me to this
Well, I'd better start writing
To get this bliss!

OK, that was stupid, but that's the best I can do right now... I rode in a VW Bug for the first time a few mins ago!!!

If I were a poet,
Could I speak of bold things
Like love and justice
And princes and kings?

If I were a poet,
Would I then understand
The mys'tries of nature
And the workings of man?

If I were a poet,
Would I know how to count stresses
Or how to write verses that were of a proper length and not too long or short?
Or learn how to rhyme?

sincerely,
jerome the non-poet

A savage place! as holy and enchanted
As e'er beneath a waning moon was haunted
By woman wailing for her demon-lover!
~Coleridge

Still time to sign up..the Teen Moderators will not take part in the 3 week test....if you'd like, go to Open 5 and see what the other members are writing using this same verse challenge..

If I were a poet
Would anyone see
How much poetry
Means to me?

If I were a poet
Would life be complete?
Would I have my answers
In rythym and beat?

If I were a poet
It would be so divine
To write a poem
And call it mine

If I were a poet
I would surely not be
A person washing dishes
That wouldn't be me

here's my poem..same line

If I were a poet,
Would my blood not be red?
Without words to be put in verse,
Would I, on the inside, be dead?

If I were a poet,
Would life be made easier?
Or with comedic poetry,
Would it be only cheesier?

If I were a poet,
Would my words be more profound?
Would my speech move mountains,
And would fanfare abound?

If I were a poet,
Could I think of one more verse,
To submit to a magazine,
To help fill my empty purse?

So how ya guys like it?

I am not a poet, I am merely one who speaks in emotion

If i were a poet
Would my words come alive
Like the dead walking in night
For the stars, would i still strive

If i were a poet
Would the world see me the same
Or through the eyes of another
Like it were just a game

It i were a poet
Would i be armed against pain
Would i earn a reward
Would i have something to gain

It i were a poet
I would no longer be blue
For my heart would have it's desire
And now i bid all of you, Adieu.

Hey! You did great with this challenge....NOW for the good news! I've decided to allow the nine teens who've signed up in the Announcements Forum to participate in the test of the Mentor program! A Lounge forum is being set up for the Mentoring teams to use for whatever purpose you choose...(It should be ready by Sunday)...

If anyone else wants to sign up, please do so! In 3 weeks when the test program is done, if it's a success, everyone will be invited to join.

We'll be posting the official rules soon (you knew there had to be some didn't you?! LOL) and since this is a test, we will probably fine tune them before we are ready to officially open the program.

At any time if you have ANY questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact one of the Moderators here..or you can email me at

poetdevine@yahoo.com

Thanks!
Sharon

If I were a poet
Would I swim in infatuation?
Write love poems to my dear
What a cuase for speculation.

If I were a poet
Must I gloat in my happiness
Dream of my many rainbows
and saturate myself with bliss?

If I were a poet
What extreme sensations must i feel?
What brilliant fantasies must i live?
What sudden inspiration must attack me?

Regret for things you did maybe tempered by time, regret for things you Didn't do, however, is inconsolable...
