Infidelity Why must a bitter heart be born, On the cusp between truth and lies? And bear the weight of guilt and scorn, When speaking of love's severed ties? Why did you cave in when tempted; Before the deed you knew the cost. Tell me why we must turn to hatred, To ease the crushing pain of loss. I long to revile, damn your name, To push memories from my mind; In an attempt to lessen the pain, The only solace I can find. I know failings of mine as well, Allowed this tragic drama scene. I wish I knew before you fell, Before this deed you've done obscene. I don't understand how you could... After arms of another man... Hold me to you like it was good, Then again to him as you planned. My only guess hurts to the core. But I must admit what's true: That why you wanted me no more, ‘Cause I'm not good enough for you. |

Not good enough for her? hmmmm....me thinks it is the other way around my friend. I know this is a poem and not necessarily mirrored to your life. the one who cheats is the one not good enough. Irreguardless of the faults of the partner, cheating is a cowards way out. It is leaving a situation without giving your partner a chance to change and make things right. At the very least know the faults, flaws or feelings which caused the relationship crumble. Just my thoughts. |

Well done, Christopher. I think for many people the first thought is that it's their own fault...a deficiency on their part. I also feel that is seldom the case. A good poem for ponderings. |

Not good enough ? Maybe you weren't meant to be, but it's never your fault when your partner doesn't have the courage to say her feelings changed. You're good enough, Chris. |

The one who is "not good enough" is the one who carelessly takes advantage of another's feelings, for the sake of personal edification. I know, because I've been on BOTH sides of the fence ... the cheater AND the cheatee, and its the cheater who is undeserving of the sanctitiy of a loving relationship. Just my humble opinion on the content ... now as to the poem, it is well written and enjoyable to read, as your work usually is. Marilyn- Actually this is a mirror view of my life. Though the event took place a while ago, I only found out about it recently. The betrayal still cuts deep. Thank you for your words! Sey- Thank you for reading! Balladeer- Thank you as well sir. And thank you for the thoughts... after a time I began to realize it wasn't all my fault. I don't condone the actions, but hey...I'm no more perfect than the next person! And glad I gave you something to think about. Munda- Thank you...with friends like you, my esteem is doing better (than maybe it should be!)  Nocht- Always a kind word, thank you! (and no more cheating! It's bad!) hoot-I don't know about that, but it brings a smile to my face to read it! jac- thank you, but I'm not quite sure I got her emotions, at the time I was more focused on mine! K-Yes dear, they still lurk, and you know why. And that you think I am good enough for you is all I need. To hades with the rest of the world, you are the one that makes me want to be a better person! And I'll never give up, so no worries on that one. |

Man, Christopher, I missed this the first time through...this is POWERFUL. These feelings I have shared and all I can say is I have every empathy. Oh Christopher I'm so sorry to hear this. I love these 2 lines and they are a question I have asked also... Why did you cave in when tempted; Before the deed you knew the cost. I've been in this situation, well, a few times. The first time I didn't find out till I found a letter from her in the mailbox. It is quite painful I know! I feel for ya Christopher, and don't blame yourself. God knows I did, made me feel like a piece of crap and pretty worthless. If ya need to talk I'm here for ya!! |
