Proposal for Another AA

I propose another AA,
Like the one for recovering drinkers,
An organization to convert
Hot sparks into clinkers.
We need an Achievers Anonymous.
To put it unmetaphorically,
Addictive achievement's a scourge-
I assert this categorically.

Who can engender greater grief
Than the hero, paragon, saint
Who constantly reminds us
That whatever he is, we ain't?
Imagine those miserable children
Tortured by unending stress:
Compared to the kid mom praises,
Whatever they do is less.

So let's have a twelve step program
For people compelled to excel,
Who seem to have no compunction
About making our lives a hell.
Let's label them "sick" not "evil,"
And give them a chance to get better.
They deserve our warm compassion,
Each achiever, doer, go-getter.
Efforts to curb their addiction
Deserve sympathetic backing.
Let's help them defeat their disease,
So we can get on with our slacking.

As I read this I first smiled, then chuckled and ending up with a good belly laugh. Nice way to start my day.
