A portrait of hate
Hangs in her gut
It eats her up inside
Like the worst kind of acid

A portrait of shame
Hangs on her tongue
It silences the words
That would remain unspoken anyway

A portrait of love
Hangs in her heart
A crooked picture
On a rusty nail

Portraits of woe
Hang on her fingers
Forbidding them to write
A happy thought

A portrait of regret
Hangs in her mind
She didn't have to do it
She's so stupid

This was really great - obviously she was thinking of Toerag or Balladeer - lol. Seriously, though, I liked your similes. They came together really well in the last verse.
