and inside there is a lush pool,
where great minds,
and great thoughts,
fester in lovely abandon
and with quiet desperation..
and silent fortitude
others who travel within those walls...
with mind open,
and lost in heart..
can sometime pick one or two...

He sat on his traveling case,
seeming threadbare,
His hair had a little too much length..
and his were a little too pink..
all and all he seemed worse for the wear..

He slowly rolled his happiness
into a streamline loss..
and when he had enough fire inside,
for just one more time..
he lit his new found old hope..

He started to wonder...
of times gone past...
of ideals he once had..
all this had started,
his inner voice spoke..
when he took that last toke..

But something seem amiss..
when he slowed to think..
from somewhere,
but not from within..
new thoughts,
and Ideals arose..

They spoken of his time as a youth..
he fresh life seemed to be...
and of a gap of knowledge..
a chasm it now seemed..
of hisself, and his times,
and his father, with his men..

He laid down, head resting on his sack..
and rolled over these knew thoughts.
he knew not where they sprang from.,
but could not find room to disagree..
He took another hit, and smiled dreaminly..
and another hit rolled over him...

It was more than a gap...
he said to himself....
but more like.. borders made anew..
when we first left our homes..
to make the world our own..
it was rebellion through and through..

but as we traveled.. and found ourselves...
it was no longer about them...
Though we still wanted the world..
and was angered at what they did to it..
what we knew...what we wanted..
had little to do with them...

but somewhere along that last reproach..
we did what we thought would be the end..
we lost that feeling..
that guide...
who we all knew...
was ourself....

We fell it caste,
and segmented...our spirit couldn't go on..
all of the rallies...
all of the fights..
turned into words in a book...
and though they didn't know, our elders truly have won..

Now quite cold,
he sat up, no longer even a bit stoned..
he couldn't believe the depth that this went,
these thoughts just recently beheld..
We have lost, surrendered..
and what shall happen now?

One last though, it swelled in his mind,
though this, he knew, was his own,
another generation, and yet another coming to age..
will soon walk forth..
collectivly gods, compared to my own,
in knowledge, and in skill...

but a smile cracked his lips, and he took another drag...
Ah... but we are about the same in WILL!

Brilliant my friend! Like the bit about future generations being 'GODS' in knowledge and skill compared to us, but just as weak and human as we are underneath. Brilliant

Ah, there is no escaping the human element no matter how far technology and/or even general knowledge advances. We will always be prisoners to our own humanity. Great poem, Edward. Thought provoking.
