Forbidden Journey in a drink-induced stupor seeking to purge his conscience the betrayal of spirit and flesh wallowing in self-destruction induced by guilt spawning recriminations spewing anguish he confesses confirmation of suspicion actuality no worse than uncertainty reality preferable to ignorance unable to reconcile the deed with devotion recalling the odd behavior wondering at self-stupidity lost hours as holes in the marital fabric untruths hung out like soiled laundry betrayal as bitter as bile in the mouth the imitation aura of a much younger me clings to him cloying gagging as cheap perfume in a whorehouse his vows forgotten in the thrill of new lust shrouded in complicity couched in lies and half-truths his forbidden journey unforgotten and unforgiven © 1999, Pat Hornsby Crochet |
