Thunder, the poem you've posted here was not written by your friend. It was written by a soldier in Ulster and found on his body, it was then read 6 years later by his father in 1995 on BBC tv. It is a wonderful poem and we are most glad when pieces as such are shared, but we cannot allow false credit to be given here. Thank you, Michael Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep Do not stand at my grave and weep; I am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there, I did not die. [This message has been edited by Michael (edited 10-30-1999).] |

These words are beautiful... If I should die, I would ask the same words of everyone who knew me, for when I am gone I am truly gone; what makes me who I am is not the body I inhabit but the soul which inhabits it. I grieve with you the loss of your friend. *HUGS* She must have been quite a poet |

So sorry that your friend is gone- there is great wisdom and peace in these words. ------------------ "Despite all my rage, I am still just a rat in a cage." -Billy Corgan- |

This is absolutely beautiful. It puts me to mind of the lovely poem on my Dad's remembrance card when he passed away.... After Glow I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one. I'd like to leave an after glow of smiles when life is done. I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I'd like the tears of those who grieve to dry before the sun Of happy memories that I leave When life is done. Author Unknown Thanks for sharing your friend's piece. It is very touching. Hope you like this one also! ------------------ Denise |

I've read this poem before it's been printed in books even, I thought it was found on the body of a world war one soldier ? ------------------ Cast your eyes on the ocean, Every man goes down to his death bearing in his hands only that which he has given away... ~Isis~ (Daughter of Mystery) |

Your friend left it, but did not write it. I checked it was left by a soldier killed in Ulster. 6 years later is was read by his father on the BBC TV. ------------------ Cast your eyes on the ocean, Every man goes down to his death bearing in his hands only that which he has given away... ~Isis~ (Daughter of Mystery) |

And it's not entitled 'Iam' but 'Do not stand at my grave and weep.' ------------------ Cast your eyes on the ocean, Every man goes down to his death bearing in his hands only that which he has given away... ~Isis~ (Daughter of Mystery) [This message has been edited by Isis (edited 10-30-1999).] |
