Sitting in Michael's Lap

I dance the circle --
A widening arc; the flames
Blazing, searing,
Cauterizing
The wound that is
My soul.

Writhing, screaming
Head thrown back
In desperate abandon -- the fire
Singing,
Pulling at my hair
Caressing my skin
Eager
To breathe me in.

I seek
Redemption
Purified in pain
The pain that numbs
The hurt that heals
The brightest blaze, that spirals
Into darkness.

Closer --
I am all -- I am nothing
I am ...

Ashes
Lifting to Heaven
Like a prayer.

Well done and disturbing that pain could be beautiful.

Watcher and dsnyder: Thank you both; I was indeed in a dark mood when I wrote this, but it was a welcome darkness.

Martie: it is only disturbing if you choose to let it be ... sometimes the best way to understand something that disturbs you is to embrace it.

DreamEvil: Indeed she can be, my friend.

Seymour: glad you liked this peek into my shadows.

Your replies are gratifying. Thank you again!

Hey! This reminds me of one I wrote last year during a really sad time in my life....

Hope you don't mind me sharing it....
(great imagery btw!)
Izzzzzzzzy

Wildfire

scorching breezes
roll towards me
flames licking their way
across the terrain

flight
is my impulse
yet, I stand
facing the inferno
head up
hands trembling
not really fearing
the flames
yet still respectful of their power

feet poised to run
it takes all my strength
to hold me there
while so gently, the orange fingers
curl around my legs
almost lovingly
running it's firey tongue
over my skin

flinching and shivering
I brave my terror
throwing my head back
and closing my eyes
screaming in defiance
letting the fire
purify me
cleanse me
make me new

I am consumed by pain
taken to a place I have never seen
the flames burning away the old me
leaving but a charred remain
of myself
my cries of agony
echo through my mind
as I am dragged to the depths of hell
I see myself reborn
tempered by fire
set free

then as the gentle rain
nourishes
a wildfire's desolation
so does the kind words and loving heart
of a friend
strengthening
encouraging
building back what the fire's fury had taken
soon the green shadow
of regrowth is seen
barely coloring
gently foreshadowing
of the new life to come
life after the raging inferno
new and pure
