Drifting on the current of a Mississippi dream,
Sailing to tranquility, aboard the Delta Queen,
Stokers shovel coal below, sweating up a steam,
To keep the paddles churnin', down to New Orleans.
Up above the pilothouse, Captain at the helm,
Lord of all the river, knows its every bend,
Keeping watch on "Muddy", as king surveys his realm,
For beneath the burnished calm, there's danger to fortend.
Off the bow, there's Huck and Jim, aboard their river raft,
Below the bluffs of Vicksburg, antebellum grace,
Cotton bales piled on the deck, "King Cotton's" fore and aft,
Steaming down to Natchez, trailhead of the Trace.

Beneath the beacon of Polaris, "Big Muddy" ever flows,
The Delta Queen forever sails, in glow of Luna's beam,
Soft rippling of the current, sweet song of dream's repose,
Adrift upon the memories of a Mississippi dream.

Are you sure you don't write for Broadway? Gods the visual and lyracy of this piece. I almost expect this one to end up as a musical. Cheerful praise to you.

Mike, I like the imagery in this piece. I was on that ship in the Mississippi while reading it.
