That place with padded walls and funny people in white.........

In the depths of onyx eyes
A stagnant swamp forever lies
It beheld the minutes turned to years
Watched the smiles mask the tears
And added lilting laughter to it all

In a heart ridden with murk
Sickening motives and methods do lurk
Memories of a spiraling decadence
With a prize of purloined innocence
She was held close, a bittersweet gall

But what does the mirror now reflect?
A being devoid of pride and respect
All hope as vapid as clouds in the sky
A worthlessness she just can't deny
Hiding and exhibiting impurity

And in the shadows of a broken mind
Perhaps she thought that she would find
A life long slave, among other things
By holding me and clipping my wings
But I am now laughing, soaring and free

Well done systematic....I could see a few places where a nip and tuck would serve well to perfect the meter, but over all an terrific piece.

You did well in evoking the dark and moody and then the last lines freed the feeling. Well done.
