The Shallowest Breath When I was a child I could see around corners, Walk through walls, Measure time in my bones. Now I move through the streets Like a dry scrap of paper, Carried by winds That sting the eyes And crawl, like spiders, Across the skin. I languish and wane In the dry morning air Of a day that will never unfold, In a life in which drawing The shallowest breath Is the hum of a cold machine. ------------------ William Haskins http://www.ionstorm.com/public/haskins/inner_sanctum.htm |

Gee! Haven't read Haskins in awhile! Some of these poets no longer post here - it's too bad! I like this one. TGTBATB |

Glad you pulled this up Poet deVine, I also thought this was well worth the read. I hope we have not lost this poet to somewhere else. |

"Like a dry scrap of paper"......I really really like your choice of words in this piece - very very nice, and I'll be sure to be reading more of your work! This needs to go back up, I'd say.... ------------------ - poet FemmeFatale "The strongest man in the world is he who stands most alone..." Henrik Ibsen (1826-1906) Norwegian dramatist lyric poet |

Maybe if we flaunt some of his exceptional poetry to the new folk here, he'll come back and post some more????? |

Thanks for resurrecting this poem and for your wonderful comments. I am merely lurking in the shadows. I still visit often to read the work of others... ------------------ William Haskins AKA The Mad Monk http://www.ionstorm.com/public/haskins/inner_sanctum.htm |
