The Last has wandered near and far, looking for his kind, but near and far, none can he find. As the Last walks the road to the Sea, he knows he will never again be happy. When a Man walks by, the Last runs. His kind was killed by Man, Man and his guns. Man is cruel. This lesson the Last has learned too late: To trust Man, is to be a fool, and now the Last has learned to hate. Man is callous, he destroys what he does not understand. He destroys all, down to the very land. Now that once again the Last has tried to flee, once again he tries to see. He sees the bodies of his kind all covered in blood. He sees the bodies half-covered in mud. And now the Last has come to die, and this he does with tortured soul and grateful sigh. ©1999 DreamEvil ------------------ Patience is a virtue, but virtue has never been one of my redeeming qualities. This is so true!! It really touched me... I have always thought mankind is too brutal, extinguishing all that it doesn't understand and using and abusing what has been given as a gift to us.... if you get the chance to see the movie, "INSTINCT," you might like it. I thought it was great... and your words in this poem struck a chord that reminded me of that movie. Anyway, I really liked this! You captured a very sad truth. ------------------ Shannon D. Thank you, I needed that shot to my confidence. I've been trying to write a piece that would evoke the emotions I feel. Perhaps I've succeeded. |

You have spoken here of the despair and ragged hope of one who knows his life will be in vain, regardless. Disturbing -- and cleverly written. --Kess ------------------ You cannot choose the way of your death, but the path you choose will determine its own end. |

Excellent verse, and tragically, too true. |
