Dad, I've always wanted to do what's right by you,
Be that woman you have always wanted me to be.
But I sit here as I often do these days,
And wonder why I try to please you.

Let's be straight here, just this one time.
I need to say exactly what's on my mind.
You hurt me so much leaving us like you did.
I remember that night; God I was just a litle kid.

I know what you did had nothing to do with me,
But Lord how I've suffered so badly.

Your cheating didn't just end your marriage
It has created a very insecure person...
ME.

Because you left Mom, I'm afraid my husband will leave me.
Do the same things so disrespectfully.

I hate the untrusting person I have become,
Because of the awful things you have done.

I know you can't go back and change your evil deeds,
But I just thought you should know how your decisions have affected me.

WOW! This is very moving. It is a mirror image of my dad's and my relationship.

Janna, if this is you, you've allowed us to look deeply inside of you. If not, then its a great piece of writing. Thank you.

Thank both you very much. It means a whole lot to be able to bare my soul and have such wonderful responses in return! Dads can sure make an impact on their little girls can't they?

This is a very sad, beautiful poem. Even when we grow up, we still feel the pain of our child self. Wonderful poem!

Thank you Poet deVine, your comments are greatly appreciated. I often wonder if parents know how they affect their kids lives...but how we love them despite!

Oh! how this poem brings all the memories of missing things, broken promises, and altered dreams. Thoughts of the father who left me behind and how it's kept me stuck in time. I wish you strength in overcomming the fear and pray your husband for whos heart you hold dear. Will find a way to make you secure.

I loved every word that was written here. It reminds me so much of how I feel because of my own father the only difference is my mother stayed.

funny how when you write something so personal you find out it really isn't that "personal". you know? It just goes to show that we aren't all alone out here in this great small world. good poem.
