They say she is a solemn child, They say she hardly ever smiles; yet they never asked her why, They don't see the tears she cries. She can only pretend she's happy with life, All the while, holding hands with strife; All her trust has been stolen away, And to receive love she's had to pay With her entire body and mind. But they're not aware this time That she pays for a twisted crime; They're not aware of the fear it breeds, Or of the pain planted inside like seeds; No, they only see a solemn child's face That no happiness can ever erase. ------------------ Shannon D. Well, you really got me into this... I'm so concerned about this child and what happened to her. To evoke empathy is one of the purposes of poetry. Keep posting! |

Afraid I have to agree with Doreen. I, too, am intrigued. A sequel, or continuation, would be welcome. Whaddayasay??? |

Thank you Doreen....your insight and comments are appreciated! Balladeer.... hmmm, is that a challenge? I will have to work on it! May take me awhile, I am actually still trying to find out what's happening to that child! Give me some time... I'm glad you read and responded. I always love hearing from you. ------------------ Shannon D. Montgomery ("Krystal") |

It's very sad when any kind of suffering is ignored by society but even sadder when we ignore the suffering of a child. You did a commendable job with your poem to remind all of us. |

Children are often overlooked. You swear in front of a child and the next time you hear the child speaking, they are using your words. If a child is anxious, fidgety, unruly, he/she is often thought to be hyperactive. If a child is quiet, withdrawn, he/she is thought to be shy. But behind the facade there may be real emotional problems; problems caused by the adults around them. No child should have to live this way! I suggest we all open our minds when dealing with children..don't see just the facade, see the child! |

nicely done - consistently in the abstract makes it general and aethereal |
