Blame Balladeer and Toerag for this one. *G* When I read Balladeer's "Architect," I was reminded of how I'm a poor poet architect... I freely admit I write for joy and/or content and don't concern myself a lot with construction.... which I'm sure makes a lot of the true poets here cringe. *G* (Of course, you can imagine how much sleep I lose over the thought of Deer cringing! LOL) And then Toerag's "Rope Jumpin' Jingle" made me remember recesses... and I decided to share this poem I wrote years ago as an assignment... It was SUPPOSED to be a sonnet. *G* I don't know whether it succeeded or not... Aren't I kind to make y'all suffer? *G*

The bell rings; it's recess. Bob rests his head.
He gets no joy from watching others play
And dares not join; he'd just be laughed away.
He's so lonely; he wishes he were dead.
Then they'd feel bad for all that they had done
In scorning him with mean remarks they'd made,
Tormenting him and filling him with hate
For legs that stubbornly refuse to run.
His scrawny limbs made useless by disease
Make him an outcast to the kids at school
Who don't know pain and so are often cruel.
When they sneer at his legs and taunt and tease.
Another bell: the kids come back inside -
Another day with no tears left to cry.

Well, you garnered an "A" from this corner of the peanut gallery.

Don't let anyone dictate how/what you write! This was so sad! And very good. You can build poetry in my neighborhood anytime.

You don't lose sleep over me cringing? Suthern! I've always idolized you! I say wonderful things about your poetry! My pal!
I've even forgiven you for your sad acceptance of you-know-who. If I am in any way responsible for you posting this poem....goody! and it's interesting to know Toerag's real name is BoB.

Why recess was one of my better subjects in school?...And it shows!....I remember one recess when another fella and I got caught putting bandaids in the vents in the kotex machines in the teacher's lounge.....that was really fun to explain to mom too!

'Deer: That "sad acceptance" is the joy of my life! LOL. And I'll bet he was never lonely at recess! *G* (By the way... I know your cringing is in anticipation of Toe's next volley! LOL)

Toerag: I bet you had LOTS of 'splainin' to do to your mom! LOL

Thank you, gentlemen.

Belle

I always knew you were good at pulling my leg.... but your fun-loving nature has GOT to stop! The last time you borrowed my "bat," it came back smelling of spilled beer and cigarette smoke. The next time your favorite hangout needs a replacement leg for one of their barstools, tell them to quit being cheap and get a new stool!

LJA: Why on earth are you complaining? You're the one that sat on that stool all night... quit spilling your beer! LOL
