We stroke our dog beneath his chin,
We save our dog the bone,
And when the pooch prefers to nap,
We leave our dog alone.
We mash its meal to make it soft.
We change its water every day.
We walk him to a hydrant
And discreetly look away.
Oh the things we do for Fido,
The money that we spend:
The ministrations of his vet
It seems will never end.
And in exchange what do we get
From a grateful canine race?
A bark, a leap a nuzzling head
And a wet nose in our face.
