EMPTINESS You can break my heart, But you can't steal my soul. You can tear me apart, But you can't make me whole. It's the nature of the business, All in the name of the game. You demand my forgiveness, But can't give back the same. It's the poet's endeavor, A lifetime of dead ends. And what darkness wont assever, Emptiness simply rends. You can't share the pain, Refuse to stand by my side. Took my name in vain The day I made you my bride. Crossed your legs at the altar, Hissed with that serpent stare. Still ambition wouldn't falter, It was my love to share. Now black and white stale poses Fade from old photographs. Thorns in a bed of dead roses, Grimaces beneath laughs. Sands of time slipping, Like clouds adrift in the sky. Tears never dripping From eyes longing to cry. Oh, that I may never awaken To this world's disenchanted charms. Forever forsaken- By the embrace of empty arms. |

Coldness of soul is a wonderful defense, my new found friend. I feel the same pains. ------------------ Shall I indulge in flights of fancy hampered by clipped wings? DreamEvil© |

Oh Michael, I'm with pen of passion here! Tell me this isn't a real life story - for if it's true, there's no wonder your poems have the mood & tone they do.....and if at one time your life with her was miserable, tell me things are brighter now for you! Please? ------------------ - poet FemmeFatale "The strongest man in the world is he who stands most alone..." Henrik Ibsen (1826-1906) Norwegian dramatist lyric poet |

Well Femme & Pen of Passion, Unfortunately this poem is 100% true. That's my wonderful ex I'm speaking of. We divorced in 1995 and yes, things are much brighter now. Michael |

I liked the whole poem ... but I must say that the sixth stanza is by far my favorite ... Bad marriage, good poetry. One wonders if it is an even trade. ------------------ "Nunc lento sonitu dicunt, morierus" (When I hear the bell tolling softly for another, it says to me, "Thou must die.") |

Michael, you can call me pen. I'm so glad things are brighter, and I hope I never write a poem as downbeat as the above. |

I hope things go on getting brighter for you - but don't stop writing. |
