Patterns of shadows that dance on my face fill the halls of my memory. Like the swaying of leaves that dance with the wind. Yet the roots grow much deeper in me. The images that flash on each page in my mind. I'll hold in my heart till I die. Then the spirit of each of my family that's passed will fade like unique clouds in the sky. With each year that passes a face is erased from the pages of memories to come. The people who once meant so much to me, in future will mean nothing to some. Each laughs at some Great-Great-something to them, just a faded face on a Kodak in time. And the saddest thought that I've ever had is that someday the face will be mine. Sad to think about, but so true! You did a good job! Good thing we have those Kodak moments! |

I agree with 'ol Balladeer here - chilling...You know, I've had this very thought before, myself? I often think along this line, when I'm walking out through an old graveyard - you see the older tombstones, where the dead were gone more than 50 years or more, and you can't help but wonder who they were....and it's sad to see their graves unkept, and no flowers on them - as the others have many.....already forgotten, they are. Very moving piece you have here....fabulous actually...! ------------------ - poet FemmeFatale "The strongest man in the world is he who stands most alone..." I was at a conference last week and one of the sessions was about the reasons people give to philanthropic organizations... The speaker asked everyone to raise their hands if they could give the FIRST name of all 4 of their grandparents... and almost everyone raised their hands. (It was a roomful of researchers... I would have expected everyone to have their hand raised! LOL) When he asked everyone to keep their hand raised if they could give the first name of at least 3 of their 8 great-grandparents, many hands went down... and he said that in the general population, there wouldn't have been many hands left raised... people are forgotten within a couple of generations. Good poem, Lucie! |
