Everyone knows her. Everyone has seen her a million times. She sits in her rocker on her porch on good days And waves at you as you pass If you care to notice. On the bad days - well, everyone rushes by Without stopping to wonder How her lonely days are spent. Got a letter just the other day Seems that poor old lady passed away Someone missed her wave on a sunny day And stopped to check And found her gone. Everyone went to her funeral, All those people who had never bothered with her in her life Discovered too late A desire to show her they cared. Cause, you see, Everyone knew her. |

A thoughtful and creative way to say, "Don't know what you got till it's gone." Excellent! ------------------ "Nunc lento sonitu dicunt, morierus" (When I hear the bell tolling softly for another, it says to me, "Thou must die.") [This message has been edited by Nochtdraco (edited 08-18-99).] |

thank you for the goosebumps, suthern PS: have you been to "The Alley" yet to cast your vote for "on a roll"? [This message has been edited by elvira (edited 08-17-99).] |

suthern, very nicely written, and very sad. It's a shame so many people never take the time to really get to know some people, who really need the company. Time marches on no matter how you use it, so use it to brighten others lives, and yours will feel fufilled. |

How very true this is!. I used to work with my mom in a nursing home when I was 12 or 13 and young people really do like old people and should get together more often. You know why?. Young people have all the time in the world (they think) and old people have all the time in the world (to share). They both have so much to learn from each other. I still think fondly of the lady who lived across the street from us (the one with the lilac bush (smile).. We used to go to her house and she would play "hide the thimble" with us in her kitchen. Her name was Mrs. Kunz. I have forgotten thousands of names over my lifetime but never hers. In fact. our lights went out the other night and I had to think of a game to play with my children to pass the time. We didn't have a thimble, so . (being computer addicts that we are). we played "hide the printer adapter"!! They loved it as much as I did, and wished the lights had never come back on. I must find that switch box more often.(smile) Thank you for your lovely poem. I agree and you made my day.! ------------------ Kay-lynn **A dream is a wish your heart makes :) |
