My pathway winds, as if in trees, Unkempt and paved in obscurities. Sometimes delineated as if by light, More often shaded by words of spite. Regrets are the pave of this path I tread, A just passage for the life I've led. Twisting bends unbanked by truth, Steeply inclined by my wasted youth. No paths diverge ahead for me, I've already chosen this way I lead. Behind me lies those smoother trails, Offered once to me, but my vision failed. The push that plunges me ever on, Comes from within, but is built upon, A foundation of insistent needs, Supporting acts of selfish deeds. Oh, remorse, you season with bitter taste, My life of promise now laid to waste. Had I but loved when it was offered me, How much lighter my life and path would be. |

The thing about the past is that it is in the past - we may write about it, but we can't change it. Live for the future. Beautiful poem. |

Toe Thanks for the kudos - the poem is not of me, but with less vision - it could have been. Dovey and lil Sue - I agree with you 100% - it is never too late - though it may seem like that at times. poohbear - thank you for that terrific compliment - although the thanks are not for what you may think - I worked pretty hard on this poem - the words did not come as easily as you might suppose. I struggled with almost every stanza. That you thought it had been easy is the greatest compliment you could give me. It let me know that I wrote well enough to get you from Point A to Point B without you noticing the journey. Thanks again for saying that without coming right out and saying it. I'm sorry your path has caused you regrets, but I'm glad your path led you to me and the life we now live. I'm very thankful for what we have. |
