A well needed rest, I was sound asleep,
It had been one hell of a day.
Then I heard a knock, 'bout three o'clock,
Rolled over-ignored-slept away.

My wife awoke and yelled in my ear;
"Aren't ya gonna go see who's there?"
Got up and staggered down the stairs,
To find a drunk in desperate despair.

He slurred out; "Can ya give me a push?"
My reply was direct and quite clear;
"It's three o'clock in the morning!
Get your big drunk ass out of here!"

Went back to bed, my wife asked me;
"Who was knocking on our door?"
I said just a drunk, needing a push,
I told him to leave and knock no more.

She said that wasn't nice, to go back and see,
If I could assist the poor man-
Got back outta bed, back down the stairs,
To do what-ever I can.

I looked out the door, unable to see,
Yelled out, "Hey do you still need a push?"
He replied, "Yes I sure do, would you please?"
I said; "Where are you man, I can't see past the bush?"

He said he was next to the flowerbed,
But I still couldn't see a damn thing,
I went out in the yard, and my face turned blood red,
When I found the drunk on my little girl's swing!

Funny! I always like a punchline at the end! Good one, Mr. Toerag.

Toerag, This is great, took me a minute cause of course I was thinking of a car, and I got to the end, and I'm like so what does this have to do with anything. Then it sunk in my thick skull, and in an instant a smile plastered itself upon my face.

And, did you give him a push?

Loved it.

This was clever ... brought a smile to my face

you are such a clever fellow...first, the title puts that Beatles' tune into my head and i simply have to take a peek at your poem, seconds later you have me guessing (car as well for me), lastly i end up laughing...thanks Toerag

PS: why is it that i always mistype your name at first "Toerage"...it is psychological or just silly fingers?

PPS: seen my reply to "Plain Elvira" yet?
