All of her today woes
were pushing happiness away
She thought when she got married,
she would never feel that way

A child was going to bring
such fulfillment and true joy
but now she thinks "when they’re older,
my life, I will then enjoy"

She thought when she got a job
it would mean true happiness
but now she thinks the next job
will bring her joy not stress.

And next month a new car
is her happiness goal
Maybe a boat next year,
will be finally make her whole

As she drives home each night
she plans for that ‘someday time’
when life is perfect in every way
and there are no mountains left to climb.

Sadly, she never found
the happiness she desired
for she was killed in an accident
her time here had expired

I for one am afraid time is passing me by...this is a very thought provoking poem. I no longer dream of "what if's"...I go out and make things happen..perhaps this poem will help others realize that they too need to realize that. Fine work, poet.

Make the most of the time you have and the things you got. Don't sweat the small stuff, because you never know when its your time to punch out. I sort of came at this same notion with something titled "A Lucky Guy." Thanks for sharing.

Wonderfully written PDV, such sweet sadness of selfish craving.... Siddartha would be proud.

Thank you all.  This was written for a friend who tries to live each day to the fullest.  He is a joy to be with - never bemoans his fate and keeps us all on an upbeat track.

Toerag - I will be yours forever for calling me a kid! Now if you'll excuse me, the attendents here at the Shady Rest Home want me to take my Geritol! (this home is specifically for Shady Ladies as there is not a tree in sight!)

I liked this very much. It does make you stop and think. Though what I get from it is stop looking to everything in the future to make you happy, be happy now! Too many times we depend upon material things to bring us so much joy. Thanks for the point to ponder!

A darkness, a sadness,
a joy of writing
and craft.
