The seven bells ( A Pantoum) Forged from tears of grieving people Sang seven bells that rang farewells. Ringing from some spire's steeple They rang goodbye lost clienteles. Sang seven bells that rang farewells Flavoring help for different donee They rang goodbye lost clienteles Sounding sounds' that flowed like honey. Flavoring help for different donee They circled through the towns abide Sounding sounds' that flowed like honey, Relieving grief the human tide. They circled through the towns abide I heard them ring just yesterday Relieving grief the human tide, I'm sure they rang from far away. I heard them ring just yesterday Forged from tears of grieving people I'm sure they rang from far away, Ringing from some spire's steeple. |

Nan - Since I've already revealed my ignorance about poetry, AND my eagerness to learn more - please define the structure of a pantoum. Please? I think I picked up some of it, but I'd really like some formal definition. |

A PANTOUM - is a poem consisting of six quatrains in a chosen meter with a repitition of lines following the pattern of: b1-c1-b2-c2 c1-d1-c2-d2 d1-e1-d2-e2 e1-f1-e2-f2 f1-a1-f2-a2 There's some discrepency about whether the lines should repeat verbatim, or contain slight variations with the final word repeated exactly. Balladeer says yeah, I say eh! Sy obviously listens to Balladeer - and does one fine job of it.... ![]() [This message has been edited by Nan (edited 08-08-99).] |

I really like the Pantoum and I really like this one. Plus, this is my first sighthing of Marge at PiP. I am sure I missed some of her posts, but what a delight to see her purple pen again. A |
