(This poem was written about a year and a half ago, when after almost 14 years or so of not writing a thing, I finally started to write again...I think if I saw this woman today, I would not recognize her...that my friends is a good thing) The Woman in the Window I saw a woman yesterday through a window pane, tears were streaming down her face like little drops of rain. And the pain that I saw there, in that woman’s face, told stories of such sadness no love could replace. I stopped for just a moment to watch her there, her face full of sadness, face full of fear. Not a sound did she make, she spoke not a word, though all that she was thinking, somehow I heard. I understood her loneliness; understood her pain; I began to cry with her; tears falling like rain. I tried hard to turn away; tried not to see; It was then I discovered that woman was me. She wasn’t a stranger, not someone to pass, it was my own reflection I saw through the glass. ------------------ "Nobody has measured, not even poets, how much the heart can hold" ~Zelda Fitzgerald |

Hoot: I'm glad that woman has faded into memory... you captured her pain so well. |

RE:..."Sweets"....well, yassee, I'm an old country boy from Alabama....and some of the "Sweets"...."Sweeties"..."Yes ma'am and No ma'am's" just kinda stick with the vocab....sorry, didn't mean to sound anyway other than complimentary.... |

I'm glad that woman is gone as well. I know the woman she became though, and she is definitely worth knowing. ------------------ Shall I indulge in flights of fancy hampered by clipped wings? DreamEvil© |

I have come back and read this for the second time because your words stuck with me... that is what poetry should do... [This message has been edited by Tim (edited 08-04-99).] |

Glad to know the view has changed and you have the knowledge to never look back, except to see what you don't want in this life. So many never learn the leason and keep going back. Well written Lady Hoot. |

Delorees, TSU325, and Sally...thank you very much for your remarks. Tim...I'm glad my words stuck with you, this poem was meant to be haunting...more for my own benifit though, rather than that of the reader Andrew Scott...look back or go back, that is two things I promised myself never to do. I read an article very soon after I walked out and left everything I ever knew behind...it said that the typical victim of abuse leaves the abusive situation an average of 7 times before they really leave for good (or my thought would also be find it too late to leave)...I promised myself I would never be part of that statistic ------------------ "Nobody has measured, not even poets, how much the heart can hold" ~Zelda Fitzgerald |

I look in the mirror.. everyday putting makeup on brushing hair.. that sort of thing and I realize how little I really "look" at myself. I don't think I will ever look in a mirror the same way again.. (or window) Very nice. errr sure I can't steal the idea for a song.. ??... (hint hint) if not.. that's ok.. I loved it anyway.! |

Sometimes looking at yourself ccan be the hardest thing to do, more so if you are honest with yourself. I'm glad you were able to look, and to SEE. Beautiful poetry. ------------------ Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll be among the stars. -Unknown- |

Hootessa You are a lucky girl. Alas, not the same with me. When you look in the window, A beautful woman is who you see. I loved your use of two people merging into one. You did it with very nice timing. |

I blush at all the response to this poem. Thank you each and every one of you. I actually did not think this poem was that good in form, but was a good reminder to me of where I never wish to go again. Redwriter....let's talk about it. Longjohn, Tori and Christopher...thank you very much!! ------------------ "Nobody has measured, not even poets, how much the heart can hold" ~Zelda Fitzgerald |

I really enjoyed reading this wonderful piece of work, hoot! Thank you so much for making us all think about more than our reflection. ![]() ------------------ ~onevoice~ "She looked at her life like lines, never-ending, constantly forming, reforming and bending." |

Even tho not quite a month old, I thought this was done well enough for another look-see by our newer members. Well done, and glad it's over for you. New starts can be painfully sweet. |

I am glad that not only you saw, but you shared. It takes a lot of strength to leave and I am glad that you had it. It's been a long time since you posted this poem, but it still has a lot of impact. Alison |
