In the space between moments

Entangled tresses of fiery copper curls,
Flowing, cascading, dangerously wild and unfurled.
Darting eyes, cautious, pools of softened pearly grey,
Vivid by blanketed night, but sheltered and hidden by day.
Her moves are stealthy, shifting in misty shadows of black,
The hunted now the huntress, tightened limbs awaiting attack.

Luscious vines of velvet expertly hide her feminine curves,
As from behind ancient veils of green her eyes silently observe.
Regal as a stunning arabian queen, she holds her head so high,
The embodiment of pure beauty, silhouetted by the sapphire sky.
Angelic she appears through twisted branches and vibrant ferns,
But her heart is an unleashed demon, full of bitter hatred it burns.

Many years of solitude she waits for her cherished revenge,
A boiling cauldron, embittered, enraged, ready to be avenged.
After a lifetime of abuse, being alone is almost a relief,
A quiet comfort to deal with wasted years and saddened grief.
But as her grey eyes dance through the frightening, untamed land,
She does not think of pain, only the fury at the now spotted man.

Removing the cruel dagger strapped to her tan, silken thigh,
She lunges towards him, letting loose an angry, electrified cry.
With wild, repeated slices comes crimson in an angry riptide,
Until his last breath is taken and he falls lifeless at her side.
The illusion of the jungle fades along with the light in his eyes,
The great huntress really only a battered wife tired of the lies.

A tortured soul is now freed from another's constraining binds,
The true warrior in her heart finally slaying the demon this time.
With not a look at the bloody knife or body slumped on the floor,
She turns her back, knowing that now she had evened the score.
No one ever suspected the huntress that so stealthily lay within,
Never will she pay for her deed, the game of hearts she did win.

I love this poem. I goes into great detail of a fantasy world that most people go through life seeing. Like me! I love it!

With the kinds of poems that deVine and I had on those "warrior" women, I admit I was quite flattered to read another coming from you! That's three in a row in two nights. Hmm. Good one, Alwye.

Very powerful...like the happy ending, too! Have to admit I've daydreamed about that a time or two myself. Something about a ticked off redhead appeals to me...loved it!

Well, krista, this one's great too.  I can't believe this is one of your old pieces.   *jealous frown *  I can see the difference in your style now, you're more refined, but this piece is great!  I love the idea of it!
