I don't mean enough to anyone it seems, for them to think of my fears and dreams. Why must I always be the considerate one, the sole font of care and compassion? Why must I relive old, embittered, scars, that come at me like onrushing cars? Why are my nerves so completely raw, that when hurt, I fight tooth and claw? Why am I the only one to soothe the soul, when no one is there to make ME whole? If the only reason I'm needed, is to listen, then in some fashion, my life is a prison. There is just myself left holding the key, to both this existence, and my sanity. Is writing this verse the only purpose, the only part of me, or just the surface? Life was simpler, before I learned to care, now that I do, a day without pain, is rare. Rhyming couplets seem to suit my mood, as I stew in my juices, ponder and brood. To no longer care, is the easiest answer, but then, dear God, how would I romance her? In defiance of the pain, rage, and spite, I find that I look forward to the night. For it brings with it the prize I desire, my Lady by my side, is all that I require. ©1999 DreamEvil ------------------ Shall I indulge in flights of fancy hampered by clipped wings? DreamEvil© |

I like this one, Dream. Hardly "just the surface". You remind me of a dear friend from long ago. Our paths crossed deeply, see, but we were not meant to be. You recall to my mind my love for him. He touched my soul, and I had to let go. I doubt that you are he, but your words I was meant to see. The tangent you are taking in your writings are wings to my spirit. Thank you. ------------------ Sunshine Words will always express our feelings true. ~~~ KRJ Look, then, into thine heart, and write ~~~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow |

Well done, Dream... Well done. The path to a woman's heart is through her ears. I hope she takes the time to listen. |

When you care, you are handing her the greatest weapon in the world. If she doesn't use it against you, she's the one. |

My God! I never expected this response. Especially from some of the poets I admire most. Humbling yet again. Thank you. |

Lovely, sir. Just lovely. You put a lot of pain and naked isolation in this one. I'm proud of you! |

Thank you, Lady deVine. I'm humbled by your praise. I know I use it too often, it's just such an apt phrase. |

Excellent poem dream. We are all vulnerable to those whom we care most about, but what kind of life would we have if we never risked truly caring or loving another? You captured the pain and risk of pain well... |
