Food for Rent Madness to you is sanity to me My life spent in captivity Has taught me how to analyze The hazy truth from shady lies Parents who never learned Rewards I never really earned Money that I never spent Rooms for sale, food for rent Bottles littered my bedroom floor The dog howling at the door The car I stole when I was ten I didn’t know freedom then Foster parents who hate kids Living life on the skids Drugs for sale, find a cure Life for me-such a blur Juvie Hall means a hot meal So what if to get it I had to steal My life was stolen long ago Don’t look at me like I don’t know The process grows, the time runs out Laughing, crying, scream and shout Lock me where you cannot see No sound escapes the penitentiary Madness to you sanity to me Food for rent, drugs for free Another one replaces me on the street The cycle knows no defeat. ------------------ Let my words fall first upon deaf ears before a closed mind... |

Gotta tell you, azblond, I've seen few poems posted here that can compare. It is such a strong poem that I read it three times and savored each one. Madness to you is sanity to me....how many people can truly understand that line? and, yes, it is a story without end. The names change; the story remains the same. This is a great piece of work. |

Thank You all...I have decided to turn some of my poetry in the direction of issues that the world seems to sweep away. I wasn't sure how they would be accepted, but your responses make me want to continue on. Sometimes inspiration comes from those who have nothing, but can teach us so much...as the subjects in my true life poetry have shown. ------------------ Let my words fall first upon deaf ears before a closed mind... |
