Reconstruction

How could I do this to myself
I let you break my heart
I let my guard down just this once
And you tore my world apart

Now I have to start again and
Build those walls anew
But I know they'll be stronger now
With no more breaking through

I'll use the spirit that's been crushed
Into the finest of all sand
And mix it up with all these tears
Safe and secure from any man

And for the gate I'll use my will
That's newly forged of steel
I'll place a lock upon it
To guard a soul that will not heal

Along the top I'll swirl barbed wire
All gleaming and razor sharp
Inside the boundaries I'll dig a hole
And bury my broken heart

Upon the grave of this broken heart
I will plant ten thousand thorns
I'll water them every day with
The rain from thunderstorms

Yet each night as I try to sleep
Inside this thorny grove
I hear his voice out in the wind
"Come back to me my love"

From inside this self-imposed prison
I can live my life alone
I can look at him with two dead eyes
And smile with lips of stone

Thanks hoot

I think I'm better off inside those walls than out.

caroline,
Never say never more
I'm sure you'll leave a door.
Excellent poem.

Leave a key outside your gate,
for the man meant for your fate.
Forgive the man that broke your heart;
you don't have to allow him a new start.

Confusus say:
Never close door too tight.

caroline, so many times youve seen me in this ame situation before. such a beautiful poem. but also many people have told me since ive been here, that building walls agianst love, isnt the way to live. but trust me, i know how good that security can feel but honestly, it never lasts long. no matter how hard you try, or how many have hurt you, you will love agian, sometimes to your disidvantage. but once agian a beatiful poem took striaght to my heart. i understnad completley!

There is never enough time to catch all of the powerful poems, such as this one here. I missed it earlier, but am glad to see I found it before this site [gasp] gets overloaded!

Very good job, Caroline, of expressing your anger. I'd like to see you do a continuation, where you go from here, and begin to take the bricks and mortar down for a new, true love.

Thank you all for your responses.

Sunshine...bless your heart

I'm still building. I don't really see any
"deconstruction" taking place any time soon.
Safe within myself...heart upon a shelf.
