He brought a dozen roses And gave them to his wife He thought they'd take away the pain That he'd shed upon her life She took them in her fragile hands But what her eyes did see Was not how red the petals were Or their natural beauty Instead she saw a dozen tears That he had made her cry Until there was no more to drop And her bright brown eyes were dry Red roses are a sign of love At least that's what they say But how can love cause so much pain And make her feel this way If only he had kissed her A dozen times or more Or showed twelve reasons why he cared Then she would know for sure But instead he buys her roses To help cover up the hurt But roses die within a week If not planted in the dirt |

What a pleasure to see you here Sis. As I've told you before, this is beautiful. Welcome to my favorite group, they're a great bunch of poets and an excellent group of people. Greetings Milady. It sounds as though thorns were more the bloom of this relationship. How unfortunate he did not know the value of giving in the manner of the second to last stanza. Well said and welcome to our corner of the world. |

Welcome, MiLady! Nice to have you here. Roses have thorns, just like love, and maybe that's why it hurts so...beautiful poem. ------------------ *Elizabeth* "Dwelt a maid belov'd and cherish'd by high and low, But with autumn leaf she perish'd, long time ago..." |
