GIVE AND GIVE

Is true love really "give and take"?
I think that's just a ruse.
To me it seems when this is so
Imbalance is the rule.
Concessions dos't the giver make
The taker covets fare
Love's cast awry before you know
You just forgot to share.
So be apprised, there's much at stake
In years you've yet to live
The only way true love shall grow
Is if it's "give and give".

Oh Nan! I loved this one.. It reminds me of something my brother had written on his placemats at his wedding.. marriage is not 50/50 cause thats only half as much as you can give. That was his 2nd he's on his 4th.. guess he should have taken his own advise..hahahhaha.

Nan,
I know you're a teacher but this is the one lesson so many people never learn. Indeed, true love NEVER stops giving.
Sadly, though, some would take advantage of just that fact - and so for others, true love NEVER stops hurting either {making loving at all after the fact a near impossibility}.
Give if you can, some of us can only wish to.

Nan: I sometimes think that saying "I love you", seems pretty to some people...I'd rather have someone show me they love me by deed and thought ..long time back now I posted some thoughts some place on this subject and said that if you can say "I trust you", to me that's far more powerful...how many people can really say that and mean it?

Just my thoughts...

A wonderful poem, my friend. Unfortunately it reminded me of a poem I wrote called "Nothing Left to Give".... I need to find that one...

Idealistically, you speak the truth here. I identify with what Michael said.

Excellent! The idea of a relationship based on 'give and give' is wonderful. Finding that relationship is difficult though... it would be wonderful if the 'takers' married each other and left all the 'givers' to the rest of us!

(Perhaps we should start a new forum - Personal Ad Forum - Lonely Hearts Club for Poets!?)

Beautiful, Nan, a message for the world; the trouble is that the takers don't understand what you are talking about, and the givers just go on giving.

I agree, Nan-true love needs "give and give". With both doing the giving.

Doreen, I'd love to see your poem. Hope you find it. Was it in the first forum?

Nan - your words are very true but love is always blind and it is always to late when the giver finds that the receiver has hung up a long time ago.

I am awed by this poem, to say it was written with such talent. You have been posting more and more lately, attributing with the principle of "give and give", and that is a very good thing. My opinion however, is that an imbalance is what makes the world interesting at times. For a friend like that who would give without thought for recompensation, I would give all the gold in the world.

Aint it the truth gal! It's sad, but so many "kids" today think only of a "bedroom" when getting married....Not the giving of love, commitment, themselves, trust, and their time to each other...........then when kids come along..responsibility, heartache/heartbreak, money problems etc., the look of that "bedroom" isn't a big deal anymore...just themselves..........what a shame.....Well done poem....as if you'd write anything other than such....

Love truly must give and give and give and give, without measure or thought for recompense...but the trick is both must do such giving, then truly their lives will overflow. :-)
